RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 3rd Jun 2021
The 2019 Zinfandel Dry Creek Valley, aged in 20% new French oak, opens with bright blueberry coulis, lavender, tea leaves and potpourri scents. The medium-bodied palate explodes with perfumed, spiced fruits, softly textured and finishing with an addicting juicy quality. 387 cases were made.
JD92+92+ pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 7/22/2021
The 2019 Zinfandel Dry Creek Valley offers a slightly darker, more exotic style in its plum, blueberry, and black cherry-like fruits as well as damp earth, bouquet garni, and toasted spice. It’s another beautifully balanced, elegant wine from Officer, yet there are enough tannins to warrant a year or two of bottle age. (Jeb Dunnuck)

When it comes to US wine production, California is King. Other prominent grapes used in California wines include Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Zinfandel (which California made popular).

This medium-bodied, ultrasmooth wine is rich and relaxed, offering superripe cherries and roasted plums along with tilled earth, cedar and sage accents that lend compelling complexity. Soft tannins and a sense of polish make it easy to drink. (Jim Gordon)

The 2019 Zinfandel Carlisle Vineyard is a gorgeous, wonderfully complete wine that shows why this site is so highly regarded. Red berry fruit, rose petal, leather, blood orange and spice open in a bouquet that is so compelling. Silky tannins wrap around a huge core of fruit as the Carlisle envelops every corner of the palate. Deep, layered and beautifully persistent, the Carlisle is wonderfully vivid from the very first taste. I loved it.

The 2019 Zinfandel Old Hill Ranch, from one of the very best sites in Sonoma Valley, is another highly attractive wine in this range. Sweet perfumed floral notes lift a core of red berry fruit, with hints of spice and earthiness that develop with a bit of time in the glass. In this range, it stands out for its striking texture and balance. Joel Peterson’s blocks at Old Hill contain a good bit of Grenache planted in the late 1880s, which no doubt contributes to the wine bright red fruit and floral profile. In any discussion of California wine, Old Hill is quite simply one of the most pedigreed sites in the entire state. It is a truly special place in every way.

Bold aromas of rose petal and orange blossom open to dynamic blackberry, licorice and smoked pepper flavors, building tension toward medium-grained tannins. Zinfandel, Carignan and Mataro. Drink now through 2030. 750 cases made.

The 2019 Bedrock Heritage Wine is a tough wine to read today. It is quite tannic and closed, but also does not appear to be quite as powerful or heavy as it can be, which in my view is a positive. Size and weight come so naturally at Bedrock that the wines can at times be a little too much of a good thing. I hope to have a chance to taste the 2019 again in the future, as it is in no mood to show its cards today. (Antonio Galloni)
JD92+92+ pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 7/22/2021
Coming from a site that was originally planted in the 1850s (the vines for this release date back to the 1890s), the 2019 The Bedrock Heritage offers a medium ruby/plum color as well as a beautifully complex nose of cherries, red plums, lavender, herbes de Provence, and pepper. Quite structured and tannic, it’s medium-bodied, has a rounded, layered texture, good acidity, and outstanding length. It’s a beautiful, complex, elegant wine that needs 2–3 years of bottle age and should have 10–12 years of prime drinking. (Jeb Dunnuck)

The 2019 Zinfandel Piner-Olivet Ranches is a blend taken from five ranches in this very unique district of the Russian River. A deep, layered wine, the 2019 shows all of the allure of the year in its open-knit, opulent personality. Super ripe red cherry/plum fruit, spice, wild flowers and blood orange are front and center in this bold, luscious Zinfandel. Vineyard sites are Papera Ranch, Carlisle Vineyard, Mancini Ranch, Montafi Ranch and Saitone Vineyard.

Savory with dried herbs and pine, the 2019 Mouvèdre Radiant Ridge Vineyard is introspective, with black fruit and freshly turned soil, while the palate is stony and mineral. It is full, but surprisingly more focused than the aromatics might suggest. Much more restrained and with a gorgeous texture, this is an incredible expression that is worth seeking out and drinking over the next 15 years. (Audrey Frick)
VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2022
The 2019 Mourvèdre Radiant Ridge Vineyard is super-expressive right out of the gate. Inky blue/purplish fruit, lavender, spice, menthol and licorice are front and center. Dried herbs and a kick of black pepper add an exotic flair to the finish. This mid-weight, fleshy Mourvèdre is a real charmer. Best of all, it should drink well with minimal cellaring. The Mourvèdre is one of the highlights in this range from Mike Officer and Carlisle. (Antonio Galloni)

The 2020 Zinfandel Papera Ranch is ripe with fresh berries, raspberry preserve, and baking spice. Its gushy fruit up front gives way to a note of raspberry seed and refreshing lift on the finish. Drink 2023–2032. (Jeb Dunnuck)
VN9191 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2022
The 2020 Zinfandel Papera Ranch is a charming, seductive wine. All the elements are so nicely balanced. Succulent red/purplish fruit, mint, blood orange, sage and rose petal lend quite a bit of immediacy, while silky tannins wrap it all together in style. The 2020 is an unusually restrained Papera, but its balance is beyond reproach. A few hours of aeration are hugely beneficial. (Antonio Galloni)

Checking in as a blend of 55% Syrah and 45% Mourvèdre, the 2016 The Integral has a touch of Cornas-like meatiness to go with sensational notes of blackberries, peppery herbs, bacon fat, and game. It’s rich, full-bodied, thrillingly textured and beautifully balanced. In short, don’t miss it! (Jeb Dunnuck)
RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th Jun 2018
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 The Integral, a blend of 55% Syrah and 45% Mourvèdre, opens with a stunning perfume of violets and roses over a core of crushed black plums and black cherries with a waft of black pepper. The palate is very big, concentrated and full-bodied with firm, rounded tannins and a refreshing lift, finishing very long and very perfumed. 519 cases produced.
VN91+91–94 pts. - Vinous - Apr 2018
The 2016 Integral is 55% Syrah and 45% Mourvèdre. Vinification with 100% whole clusters of the Mourvèdre adds striking aromatic top notes. Rose petal, sage, mint and raspberry notes show terrific raciness in this flavorful, mid-weight red. The Integral is another arresting wine from Mike Officer.

From a site in the Russian River (mostly Papera Vineyard but 24% from Carlisle and 6% from Mancini), the 2018 Zinfandel Piner-Olivet Ranches sports a deep purple color as well as a pretty bouquet of spiced strawberries, blueberries, smoked earth, leafy herbs, candied orange, and violets. A juicy, elegant wine with medium to full body, bright acidity, and a seamless texture, drink this incredibly delicious Zinfandel over the coming 5–7 years or so. (Jeb Dunnuck)
VN92+92–95 pts. - Vinous - Apr 2020
One of the stars in this range, the 2018 Zinfandel Piner-Olivet Ranches is a blend of several vineyards that is meant to capture this specific district within the Russian River Valley. In 2018, those sites are Papera, Carlisle and Mancini, a combination that works brilliantly. Dark red/purplish fruit, lavender and menthol flesh out effortlessly, with bright acids that punctuate the finish.
