Good, direct berry flavors and a medium to full body make this a hearty, fruity wine. Blackberries, black grapes and light baking spices make a pleasant combination. (Jim Gordon)

The 2015 Zinfandel Grist, from a rugged hillside site in Dry Creek, has plenty of character, but it also comes across as rustic and rough around the edges, especially in its tannin profile. There is no shortage of depth to the black cherry, plum and lavender flavors. It will be interesting to see if the winemaking team can coax a little more finesse from this site in future vintages.

Oodles of ripe fruit flavors ride a full body in this dark-colored, saturated wine. Impressively concentrated chocolate and black-cherry notes are braced by fine-grained tannins for an almost chewy texture.
SP8787 pts. - Wine Spectator - Dec 15, 2021
Zesty yet rustic, with broad-shouldered blackberry and licorice flavors. Best after 2022. 31,000 cases made. (Tim Fish)

This well-balanced, well-rounded wine offers generous aromas of boysenberry jam, black cherry compote, fresh and dried cranberry, black pepper, crushed violets and toasted wood. The palate brings forth a solid dose of acidity, while a grippy tannic texture coats the tongue and cheeks and brings additional notes of cacao, star anise and cinnamon stick. (Stacy Briscoe)
SP8989 pts. - Wine Spectator - Dec 31, 2023
Plump and juicy, with easygoing raspberry jam, licorice and zesty cinnamon flavors. Drink now through 2029. 2,000 cases made. (Tim Fish)

VN9595 pts. - Vinous - Apr 2020
The 2018 Zinfandel Old Hill Vineyard is flat-out stunning. Deep, layered and super-expressive, the 2018 offers unreal complexity, much of which comes from the diversity of a field blend of about 14 varieties that includes good bits of Grenache, Mataro, Alicante and Carignane, among others. A wine of total understatement, the 2018 is not obvious, but it has so much going on for readers who can take some time with it. Old Hill is one of the most pedigreed sites in Sonoma Valley. Joel Peterson certainly got every bit of potential out of this fruit in 2018. What a wine!

RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 3rd Jun 2021
The 2019 Zinfandel Dry Creek Valley, aged in 20% new French oak, opens with bright blueberry coulis, lavender, tea leaves and potpourri scents. The medium-bodied palate explodes with perfumed, spiced fruits, softly textured and finishing with an addicting juicy quality. 387 cases were made.
JD92+92+ pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 7/22/2021
The 2019 Zinfandel Dry Creek Valley offers a slightly darker, more exotic style in its plum, blueberry, and black cherry-like fruits as well as damp earth, bouquet garni, and toasted spice. It’s another beautifully balanced, elegant wine from Officer, yet there are enough tannins to warrant a year or two of bottle age. (Jeb Dunnuck)

Shop for Zinfandel

Zinfandel wine is one of the truly "American" wine sensations in the marketplace. Nowhere else in the world is the Zinfandel grape grown so extensively and with such success. And to narrow it down even further, the Zinfandel grape, which makes both Red Zinfandel and White Zinfandel wines, is grown primarily in California.

Red Zinfandel wine is typically bold in flavor, with a rich, lush texture, and typically high alcohol content. Among other things, Zinfandel pairs perfectly with barbecue (another American tradition).

You'll find a fantastic selection of Zinfandels to choose from here at WineMadeEasy.com!
