When it comes to US wine production, California is King. California wines account for almost 90% of all wines produced in the United States each year, and is home to the most celebrated vineyards and producers in the country. California is probably best known for its world-famous Cabernets and Chardonnays, many of which hail from its two most-acclaimed AVAs, Napa Valley and Sonoma County. Other prominent grapes used in California wines include Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Zinfandel (which California made popular).

The United States now ranks fourth in the world in wine production behind, France, Italy, and Spain. While about 90% of that wine is produced in California, other states like Oregon, New York, and Washington are establishing themselves as prime spots for wine production, as well. Just about any variety of wine can be found in production somewhere in the United States.

Oodles of ripe fruit flavors ride a full body in this dark-colored, saturated wine. Impressively concentrated chocolate and black-cherry notes are braced by fine-grained tannins for an almost chewy texture.

The 2019 Zinfandel Steacey Ranch opens with a blast of dark cherry, plum, spice, leather and tobacco. Ripeness is decidedly pushed. Readers should expect an exuberant, flamboyant wine with generous dark fruit and tons of body. There is plenty of immediacy, but not a lot of subtlety. The Steacey Ranch Zinfandel is a wine of impact, that is obvious.
RP9191 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 4th Feb 2021
The 2019 Zinfandel Steacy Ranch has a medium ruby color and opens with a touch of tarry reduction over a core of wild berry preserves and earth. Medium-bodied, the palate features dark, earth-laced fruits with a grainy frame and uplifted finish. Give it another year or two in bottle or a long decant. 1,070 cases produced.

Bold aromas of rose petal and orange blossom open to dynamic blackberry, licorice and smoked pepper flavors, building tension toward medium-grained tannins. Zinfandel, Carignan and Mataro. Drink now through 2030. 750 cases made.

The 2019 Bedrock Heritage Wine is a tough wine to read today. It is quite tannic and closed, but also does not appear to be quite as powerful or heavy as it can be, which in my view is a positive. Size and weight come so naturally at Bedrock that the wines can at times be a little too much of a good thing. I hope to have a chance to taste the 2019 again in the future, as it is in no mood to show its cards today. (Antonio Galloni)

Coming from a site that was originally planted in the 1850s (the vines for this release date back to the 1890s), the 2019 The Bedrock Heritage offers a medium ruby/plum color as well as a beautifully complex nose of cherries, red plums, lavender, herbes de Provence, and pepper. Quite structured and tannic, it’s medium-bodied, has a rounded, layered texture, good acidity, and outstanding length. It’s a beautiful, complex, elegant wine that needs 2–3 years of bottle age and should have 10–12 years of prime drinking. (Jeb Dunnuck)

The deep purple/ruby-hued 2019 Zinfandel Pagani Ranch comes from a site in the Sonoma Valley and is 90% Zinfandel, 6% Petit Sirah, and the rest Alicante Bouschet. Red plums, blueberries, blood orange, and candied violet notes all emerge from this beauty, which is medium to full-bodied and offers an ultra-fine texture, silky tannins, and a great finish. This is one impressive, satisfying Zinfandel to enjoy over the coming 7–8 years. (Jeb Dunnuck)

Deeply structured but not weighty, showing black raspberry and blueberry flavors laced with bittersweet chocolate, green peppercorns and fruitcake spices that build tension toward refined tannins. Drink now through 2030. 3,990 cases made. (Tim Fish)
