Tiberio Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo 2023 / 750 ml.

Item#: 62624

A translucent ruby in color, the 2023 Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo is lifted and finessed with a gorgeous bouquet of rose petals, cedar shavings, wild blueberries and crushed stones. This washes across the palate with ease, juicy and vividly fresh, as ripe wild berry fruits cascade across a core of tactile minerals. Hints of savory spice emerge toward the close. It leaves a pleasantly bitter tinge to linger on, tapering off with hints of sour cranberry and violet inner florals. I love the crunchy nature and filigree feel of the 2023. (Eric Guido)

Italy is famous for its powerful, sleek, and elegant reds wines from ancient growing areas with legendary names such as Chianti, Barolo, Barbaresco, Montepulciano. Italian white wines are also gaining popularity: Orvieto, Pinot Grigio, and Sauvignon are excellent examples of Italian white wines.

Wines of Italy are complex and flavorful, much like the culture that is their source and the cuisine that is their match.

Dark and understated, the 2021 Montepulciano d’Abruzzo smolders up from the glass with a woodland-inspired blend of dried black cherries, sage and shaved cedar. This enters the palate with a burst of inner sweetness complemented by silky textures that carry a dense wave of ripe red and hints of black fruit. Zesty acidity maintains balance through it all as the 2021 finishes structured with balsamic spice and a tart blackberry tinge. This shows the warmth of the vintage, especially in the tannins, yet maintains harmony throughout. That said, expect a darker and more intense rendition of Tiberio’s Montepulciano. (Eric Guido)

The 2019 Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Archivio opens slowly in the glass, darkly intense and youthfully coiled. Swirling brings an aromatic blend of foreign spice, balsam herbs, dried black cherries and lifting shaved pine notes. With its silky textures, this seduces, more lifted and poised than I’d imagined. A core of tart raspberry fruit stains the palate as a web of fine-grained tannins forms toward the close. While structured and dramatically long, the Archivio maintains a lovely harmony, as a bitter tinge of savory spice mingles with violet inner florals. Interestingly, the textural performance between the Archivio and Colle Vota seems to have traded places in 2019, as this is the more elegant and lifted of the two. It’s an atypical Archivio that should not be missed. (Eric Guido)

The 2021 Pecorino is understated in the glass yet very pretty, showing nuances of kiwi and chlorophyll, giving way to exotic florals and wet stone. Its textures are surprisingly luxurious, plush even, yet this is salty to the core with mineral-tinged green melon and hints of fresh mint. A mineral staining lingers through the finale, finishing long yet energetic and lightly structured. Wow, the 2021 is a warm and dry vintage for Pecorino that drinks with such refinement. (Eric Guido)
