Gewurztraminer, a spicy white wine originally hailing from the German-speaking town of Tramin in Northern Italy, has been cultivated for centuries but is enjoying a surge in popularity in recent years. "Gewurz" is famous for its aromatic nose and spicy flavor notes, and some of the world's best examples of Gewurztraminer come from the French region of Alsace. Wine lovers flock to Gewurz for its classic fruit notes, and while the wine is often sweet-smelling to the nose, it's often a dry white wine on the palate.

Outside of Alsace, wine made from the Traminer grape is most prevalent in Germany, Austria, Canada, and right here in the United States. In fact, there are several fantastic Gewurztraminers produced in New York's Finger Lakes, just a stone's throw from us here at WineMadeEasy.com.

    WE9090 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 9/1/2020
Aromas of milky white blossoms and ginger are at the fore, with a solid base of creamy melon. This is rich and silken in feel, offering a luxurious palate of melon and white plum, lifted by accents of peppery spice and flowers. Grapefruit bitters add a bit of astringency to help firm up the close.

Dark, bright yellow. Captivating honeyed tropical fruits and sweet spices on the classic Gewürztraminer nose. Opulently spicy, rich and ripe in the mouth, with smoky tropical fruit flavors complicated by notes of iodine, sweet spices and flowers. Readers ought to take note that this outstanding wine tastes slightly sweet. Match it with white meat dishes involving cream sauces or mushrooms, or with a spicy pumpkin soup. An archetypal Gewürz of the big and opulent kind, as opposed to the spicy/floral style.

    2020 / 750 ml. | Item#47386

    SP8888 pts. - Wine Spectator - Dec 15, 2021
This packs some punch, offering extroverted nectarine, lychee and pink grapefruit notes, with a plump, spicy finish. Drink now. 2,730 cases made.
    RP8787 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 3rd Jun 2021
The 2020 Gewürztraminer comes in with eight grams of residual sugar this year, 6.4 of total acidity and 13.5% alcohol. This is sourced from vines planted in 2013 and 2017. In its youth, this shows off its sugar a bit, avoiding the bitter finish of very dry Gewürztraminer. It also hides the spice a little, but the lychee nuances come through with air and warmth. It adds respectable depth and it tastes great. It has more depth than the 2018 but not necessarily more character. In its uncomplicated and easy style, this is fun to drink, especially now. I’m less sure of how it will age; it’s more likely to go down than up, but if you drink it young, you won’t have to worry about it.
