Philip Togni Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2014 / 750 ml.

Item#: 44920

VN9797 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2016
Togni’s 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is quite dark and powerful, but also very much medium in body. Graphite, smoke, savory herbs, mint, leather and a core of inky dark red and purplish fruit infuse this deep, beautifully layered Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2014 is a wine built on energy and aromatics that won’t hit its stride until at least age ten.
VN94+94–97 pts. - Vinous - Oct 2015
The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is wonderfully savory and mineral, with a host of graphite, liquefied rock, floral and dark stone fruit notes that open up in the glass. Energetic, crystalline and beautifully focused throughout, the 2014 exudes class from the very first taste. Stylistically, it is a bit less generous than the 2013 was at the same stage in its life. This hypothetical blend is every bit as striking as the individual component lots suggested when I tasted them this past spring. Philip Togni adds that a larger than normal crop stretched out the harvest. Today, the 2014 is shaping up to be another uber-classic wine from Togni.
RP94+94+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Dec 2016
The flagship wine, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate from his vineyard high on Spring Mountain is a blend of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot. It seems slightly more approachable and civilized for a young Togni wine, with a dense ruby/purple color, loads of blackcurrant, licorice, and graphite, some earth and spice, but very subtle earth nuances. It is full-bodied and rich, but the tannins are well-integrated and don’t scream as loudly as some vintages of Togni can. For Togni, this is probably one of his more forward and precociously styled Cabernets. It will probably approach drinkability in several years, but don’t discount its aging potential, as this easily has 20–25 years of cellaring potential.

The estate’s Cabernet Sauvignon dominated release is the 2014 La Joie. It’s an incredible wine based on 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc and the balance Petit Verdot. Reminding me of a top vintage of Ducru-Beaucaillou (the 2010?) with its classic Cabernet character, it offers thrilling notes of crème de cassis, exotic flowers, liquid rock-like minerality, and graphite and lead pencil nuances. Deep, concentrated, and backward, it has perfect balance, good acidity, and an undeniable Bordeaux-like weight and texture. Nowhere near primetime, it needs 5–7 years of cellaring and is going to keep for three decades. (Jeb Dunnuck)
RP97+97+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 28th Oct 2016
The 2014 La Joie has a spicy black purple color and a big, sweet kiss of camphor, black truffle, pen ink, blackcurrants and unsmoked cigar tobacco, followed by layers of fruit and glycerin in an opulent, beautifully savory, pure and multidimensional wine. The final blend Seillan produced in 2014 was 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. This is a compellingly great effort once again. It should be given 2–5 years of bottle age, then drunk over the following three decades.
VN9797 pts. - Vinous - Mar 2017
The 2014 La Joie exudes freshness, energy and intensity. Black cherry, plum, licorice, lavender espresso and expressive spiced notes are all beautifully delineated in the glass. Raspberry jam, wild flowers, mint and gently spiced notes are laced into the super-expressive, silky finish. A final kick of Cabernet Sauvignon intensity adds lift in the 2014 La Joie, Vérité’s Cabernet Sauvignon-based blend.

The 2014 Claret is a blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot coming from Calistoga, Howell Mountain and Mt. Veeder. This represents 600 cases of a large-boned, virile, big, juicy blackcurrant and blackberry-scented and flavored Cabernet Sauvignon with some background toast, licorice and forest floor. It has terrific richness, sweet, velvety tannin, and notable opulence and length. Drink it over the next 15 or so years.

Composed of 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Franc, 10.5% Petit Verdot and 0.5% Malbec, the 2014 Proprietary Red has a deep garnet-purple color and compelling cassis, black cherries, mulberries and plums nose with hints of chocolate box and menthol. Full-bodied and jam-packed with muscular black fruit, it has a very firm, ripe, fine-grained tannic backbone and a long, pure-fruited finish. 200 cases were made.

Larkmead LMV Salon 2014 / 750 ml.

2014 / 750 ml.

Item #: 45349

RP9595 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 28th Oct 2016
Even more prodigious is the 2014 LMV Salon. Composed of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Cabernet Franc from the sandy Bale Loam soils of the 110 acres Larkmead possesses, it is a bigger boy at 14.9% alcohol but shows lots of crushed rock and wet gravel minerality, a beautiful, cedary, blackcurrant nose with notes of forest floor, allspice and soy, with more blackberry on the palate as well as some savory herbs and spice. Hints of licorice also make an appearance in this broad, fleshy, juicy and succulent style of wine meant for drinking now and over the next 20 years.
VN9494 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2016
The 2014 LMV Salon offers lovely depth and intensity. Today, the Cabernet Franc is really expressive, not just in its signature aromatics, but in its mid-weight, refined feel. The 2014 was much more expressive last year. Then again, it was just bottled. Red stone fruit, mint, rose petal, mocha and raspberry jam open up nicely, while beams of tannin give the wine its energetic feel.
JS9494 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Friday, May 5, 2017
Lots of blueberry, licorice and gun-powder aromas follow through to medium to full body, fine tannins and a savory finish. Lovely balance and fruitiness. Lovely now. Tangy minerality. Drink and enjoy.
VN93+93–96 pts. - Vinous - Oct 2015
Larkmead’s 2014 LMV Salon is sweet, nuanced and totally sexy. Pliant and super-expressive, even at this early stage, the 2014 is shaping up to be a beauty. Today, the fruit is quite primary, with plenty of sweet red cherry and plum nuances to match its supple personality.

VN9797 pts. - Vinous - Mar 2018
The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Dr. Olmo has really come together since I last tasted it from barrel. Graphite, smoke, crushed rocks, spice and rose petal overtones give the 2015 Dr. Olmo its distinctive aromatic signatures. The 2015 finishes with remarkable tension and energy. What a gorgeous wine it is.
JD9696 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - December 29, 2017
Of the three top Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Dr. Olmo is the most classic expression of Cabernet and offers Pauillac-like notes of black cherry, cassis, lead pencil shavings, espresso roast, and gravelly minerality. It’s full-bodied, concentrated, and structured, and will benefit from 4–5 years of bottle age and shine for 20–25 years or more. (Jeb Dunnuck)

Château Pichon Baron

2017 / 750 ml.

Item #: 51959

JD9696 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - February 26, 2020
A blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon and 22% Merlot aged 18 months in 80% new French oak, the 2017 Chateau Pichon-Longueville Baron sports a vivid purple hue as well as gorgeous notes of creme de cassis and black raspberry fruits interwoven with classic Pauillac lead pencil, crushed rocks, chocolate, and violet notes. Full-bodied and concentrated, yet elegant and seamless, it has remarkable purity, flawless tannins, beautifully integrated acidity, and a great finish. It’s going to hit the early stages of prime drinking in 7–8 years and cruise for 20–25 years or more. (Jeb Dunnuck)
RP9595 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 16th Mar 2020
Composed of 79% Cabernet Sauvignon and 21% Merlot aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, 80% new, the deep garnet-purple colored 2017 Pichon-Longueville Baron slips sensuously out of the glass with provocative cherry preserves, baked raspberries and fresh blackcurrants scents, leading to nuances of red roses, charcoal, tilled soil and cardamom plus a waft of forest floor. Medium-bodied, the palate is elegant, refreshing and refined, with a compelling line of soft, grainy tannins and lots of perfumed accents, finishing fragrant. (Lisa Perrotti-Brown)
SP9595 pts. - Wine Spectator - Mar 31, 2020
Well-built, featuring the pure, fresh core of currant and blackberry fruit that is the vintage’s hallmark, all backed by well-integrated tobacco, cast iron and roasted apple wood notes. Grippy, but with enough energy to keep bringing you back rather than tiring you out. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Best from 2024 through 2040. 13,916 cases made. (James Molesworth)
VN94+94+ pts. - Vinous - Mar 2020
The 2017 Pichon-Baron has developed into a potent wine, even by its own standards. Black cherry, plum, chocolate, grilled herbs, licorice, new leather and spice all flesh out in a succulent Pauillac that shows the racier personality of the year. In the glass, Pichon is dark, racy and sumptuous as it so often is, with terrific density and explosive energy. Today, I see less of the aromatic brilliance the wine showed en primeur; perhaps that will come with time. The 2017 spent 18 months in 80% new oak.
